DeleteL'ap fè chèlbè. - S/he is showing off.
So "pwente" means "to punch in" and " to punch out" according to your sentences?
ReplyDeleteIf that is the case, what distinguishes the meaning of the two?
As is the case for many other words, context would.
DeleteSome Haitians also say ponche, and it's the same translation for punch in or punch out.
That is the one I say a lot.
DeleteYes. Tha's the one I hear most from Haitians in the US.
DeleteI think I figured out how they might be resolved. Why not say "Ponche/pwente antre/vini" for clocking in and "Ponche/pwente soti/ale" for clocking out? What do you think of this?
ReplyDeleteMmmmm.... let's stick to the conventional way. It's important to know that both words can be used.
DeleteYeah I think I might just do that.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, since we are talking about job-related things, what are words for "badge", "resume", "unemployment", "unemployed", "to get a raise", "promote", "demote", "retire"?

-Submit your resume with your job application to the receptionist."
-"The unemployment rate has gone down by 12 percent."
-"They have been unemployed for 3 months."
-"She got a pay raise for her hard work."
-"The boss promoted him to manager."
-"Instead of firing him, the manager demoted him to an entry-level position."
