They're abusing Haitians like themselves.

Pa gen okenn moun parèy li.
There's no one like him.

Mwen vle yon pè soulye parèy sa.
I want a pair of shoe similar to this one.

M'ap sèvi yon Bondye san parèy.
I'm serving a God like no other.

Parèy → like that, such a...

Mwen pa ka kwè li te fè yon bagay parèy.
I can't believe he did such a thing.

what are some common english hymns that they also sing in creole?

Here's an image of the table of  contents in the back of the songbook called Chants D'Esperance:
It is a list of Creole hymns in the book which have English Airs.
The page or song numbers in the following table of contents will then correspond to the Creole portion of the Chants D'Esperance online  when you click on the KREYÒL tab.

pi plis

plis or pi plis → more
pi plis → the most

Nou t'ale achte liv pou lekòl. M te achte pi plis pase tout moun.
We went to buy books for school. I bought more than everyone.

Mwen renmen w pi plis pase tout.
I like you more than anything.

Nan tout fim mwen gade semèn sa, mwen renmen sa pi plis.
Of all the movies I watched this week, I like this one the most.

On Weekends, during the day, and at night

Jou nan semèn nan

during the day → lajounen
in the evening → leswa
in the afternoons → lezapremidi, le apremidi
at night → lannuit, nannuit
on the weekends → lewikenn
on weekdays → lasemenn
on Sundays → ledimanch
in the morning → lematen
Sunday → jou dimanch lan
Saturday → jou samdi a

1. Jou dimanch lan se jou pou m repoze.
Sunday is my day to rest.

2. What do you do on Tuesdays?
    Kisa ou fè lemadi?

3. What do you do in the morning?
     Kisa w fè lematen?

4. I have a Creole class on Fridays.
Mwen gen yon klas Kreyòl levandredi.

5. The market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
     Gen mache lemèkredi ak samdi.

6. We take the course on Monday afternoons.
Nou pran kou a lelendi apremidi.

7. We'll leave on Monday.
    N'ap pati lendi.

8. I'll see you at church on Sunday.
M'a wè w legliz la dimanch.

9. On Thursday she called me. But I haven't heard from her since.
Jedi l te rele m.  Men depi lè sa, mwen pa janm tande l ankò.

10. Konbyen jou ki gen nan semèn nan?
How many days are there in the week?

"Mwen pa di a, mwen pa di b." What's the meaning?

Mwen p'ap di "B", mwen p'ap di "C".
Mwen p'ap di "krik?", mwen pa di "krak!".
M p'ap di ni krik ni krak.
My lips are sealed.
I won't say one word.

Yo mennen l devan jij la.  Li pa di "B", li pa di "C".
They brought him to the judge.  He did not say one word.

Lè madanm ni ap babye, li pa di ni krik ni krak.
When his wife is babbling, he keeps his mouth shut.

Bon swa. I like your posted list of books you've read or are still reading (left column of this page.)

Bonjou a ou menm tou!
Yes, I continue to read.

You know my last two books, Haiti, Aftershocks of History and Unbroken Agony, the Kidnapping of a President , left me with the impression that the events of Haiti or Haitian leaders are nothing but puppets being controlled by hostile characters. It seems, according to Laurent Dubois and Randall Robinson, Haiti has only a past that she can be proud of, and that's where it stops. Her future looks grim since her people are unable to make crucial changes. This can't be true.

Last week, I picked up Love, Anger, and Madness, the Haitian Trilogy, but I don't think I'm ready for another depressing journey. I'm saving it for spring time reading, when my spirits would most likely be able to handle the bittersweet ramble.

A friend just sent me Black Haiti, A Biography of Africa's Eldest Daughter. It looks interesting. I will venture in with caution :)
