As the deer panteth for the waters, so my soul longeth after thee (lyrics in Creole)

As the deer panteth for the waters

As the deer panteth for the waters
So my soul longeth after thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship thee
You alone are my strength my shield
To you alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart desire
And I long to worship thee

Menm jan plant nan jaden bezwen dlo
Se konsa mwen swaf prezans ou
Ou se jwa nan kè mwen
E mwen pap janm sispann chante glwa ou
Nan ou sèl nanm mwen jwenn refij
Nan ou sèl nanm mwen jwenn sekou
Ou se jwa nan kè mwen,
E mwen pap janm sispann chante glwa ou

  1. I'm not sure if I am reading this right, but does the Creole version say plants needing water instead of a deer? Is this more culturally relevant?

  2. Yes, it does say that.

    It (literally) says:
Just like plants in a garden need water
So my soul is thirsty for your presence.

And you are right about the cultural relevance. We culturally relate better to this interpretation.

    Thanks for asking.

  3. Ok, thank you so much! That is really helpful...I should pay more attention to the words as I read the Bible in Creole that is for sure.

  4. Anytime :)
Reading the Haitian Creole Bible is a great way to increase your Haitian Creole vocabulary. You can always compare the translations to your English bible.
